Stop Motion Final

Final project for my stop-motion animation class, the assignment was to take a sound clip from a movie or TV show and build an animation around it.  My sound clip is Rainn Wilson (Dwight) from The Office, all of the puppets, set, and animation were done by me.  I wasn't really looking forward to this class before I started it, but I actually had a lot of fun doing stop-motion.  The puppet and set-building isn't really my cup of tea, but I could definitely see myself animating this way in the future.  I'm pretty pleased with the way this turned out, and despite my inexperience with building in 3D I like how the monkey (I've named him Charles) came out as well.  Anyways, here it is, enjoy!

Character Design: Grace

I was playing around with a different drawing style and got a character sketch that I really liked, so I decided to go all-out with it and turn it into a finalized character, who I've named Grace. The top left drawing is the initial sketch, and the others were just me getting to know her a little better before I got into a finalized design.

I explored a few different color possibilities. I had initially imagined her as a redhead with a blue outfit, but I tried a couple other combos as well just to see what happened.  For a while I was really favoring the brown and purple designs, but in the end I decided that, while it was nice visually, it didn't really fit with the personality I had in mind for her, so I went back to my first choice of red and blue.

And the final turnaround:

More Layouts

My final three assignments for my Layout class: a 5 point perspective shot, medium interior shot, and a tilt. I really learned a lot in that class and I'm much more confident in my background-painting capabilities, buuuuut I still prefer doing characters over layouts. At least I'm not afraid of them anymore. :)

Anatomy practice

Classes are out for Christmas so I have time to upload again! These are some anatomy practice sketches. The top set are just some poses out of my head, no references used. The bottom set are some of my favorite gestures from my last few life drawing sessions.
