Pre-CTN Art Post

New business cards are in, my flatbook is being printed, I've gotten all my tickets and reservations set- I'm ready for CTN! I'm flying out Friday night and will be prowling the expo with my portfolio all day Saturday and most of Sunday. I'm excited to meet some new people and see what's going on in the industry, I think it'll be a good time.

Here's a bunch of stuff I've been working on to put in my portfolio, trying to expand my horizons a bit in the character department and honing my digital painting skills some more.

I'm sure there will be a post-CTN update, hopefully with some more work to show. Hope to see some friends there, and maybe make some new ones! :)

I'm back!

I think I'm finally getting over my post-semester art slump, I've been drawing a lot more lately and have plans for a lot of new projects in the near future!

My first finished piece in a while is my entry for The Treasures of Middle Earth Design Contest. I chose to enter in the character category, my piece is of Thranduil, the Elvenking of Mirkwood. Fairly simple, compositionally, but I'm still happy with how it turned out. If you'd like to boost my ratings in the contest you can do so here. ;)

This next one is a work-in-progress shot of a digital painting I'm working on. My lovely boyfriend Dylan agreed to pose for me, hopefully I'll be able to finish it by next weekend. Aside from more rendering I need to play around with the colors some more, red isn't a color I use very often so it's been a bit of a learning experience.

These are my most recent pieces, I have another digital painting in the works that I've been picking at for the last few months as well as a bunch of sketches that need to be scanned, so be on the lookout for another entry soon!

1920s Girl Digital Painting

Trying to break out of my comfort zone little by little. Just a little project to practice full-figures, since I tend to paint mostly portraits.

Thesis Film: A Ladies' Quarrel

My completed thesis film from Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design. I finished this months ago, but I wanted to wait until after my grad show to post it online. And, oh yeah, I've graduated! I'm staying in the Denver area until I figure out what to do with my life, working on my portfolio in the meantime.

About my film: it was inspired by period dramas, only with a ridiculous twist. All animation was done with pencil and paper, then scanned into Toon Boom Animate Pro for cleanup and color. Took much longer than expected to complete, but I powered through it and I'm happy with the results. Enjoy!

Lots o' Sketches

Just a slew of sketches that I've done from this past December to the present, mostly original characters and a random 40's-era girl. The sword pose was referenced from a stock image on DeviantArt.
I'd been browsing through OMG that dress! (an excellent resource for historical clothing) and fell in love with the 1950's-style dresses, so when I just started doodling one day some of that love came out and I ended up with this retro space girl character. I'd like to do a cleaned up version of her sometime, because I think she's kinda cute.

A few months ago some of my friends wanted to do a challenge to design the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and while I only managed to get one done I'm pretty proud of it. I went with a 19th-century era design, so here's my version of Pestilence, with his bloody amputation saw. Might color this soon.

That's all, folks!
